Sharjah: The Health Promotion Department at the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah (SCFA) held its first coordination meeting in preparation for launching the second phase of the “Wazen” program, the first health survey for Sharjah government employees.

“Wazen” program was launched under the patronage of HH Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, In a strategic partnership with the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah.

The program is targeting employees of 60 government departments and institutions, across Sharjah and the eastern and central regions of the emirate.

Chaired by HE Iman Rashid Saif, Director of the Health Promotion Department, the meeting discussed logistics preparations and arrangements for the formulation of the objectives of the second phase of the "Wazen Program".

This phase includes the formation of the Higher Advisory Committee for Standards and Evaluation, the issuance of the statistical file and the analytical results of the first phase.

Present at the meeting were Colonel Amina Al Shouq, Director of Human Resources at Sharjah Police, Mohammed Al Shaer, Director of Human Resources Department at Family Development Centers, Dr. Mansour Anwar, Consultant Family Medicine and Occupational Health, Director of Happiness and Tolerance Department at du.

In addition to Eng. Tariq Mohammed Haniya from the Prevention and Safety Authority, Alia Al Hosani from the Department of Statistics and Community Development in Sharjah, and Hind Abdul Karim from the Department of Human Resources.

Organizing the Regional Best Practices Meeting

HE Iman Rashid Saif commended the continuous follow-up and attention given by HH Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs to the stages of implementation of the program.

Saif also hailed HH Sheikha Jawaher’s directives and patronage of the department initiatives, through which she aspires to contribute actively in promoting Sharjah's efforts to become the world’s and region’s first healthy city, in order to provide a better life that ensures the welfare, safety, and happiness of the community.

She pointed out that the meeting discussed the possibility of conducting field visits to government institutions to evaluate the current services available under the second phase of the program.

This will be followed by organizing the regional best practices meeting at the global level, setting the criteria for classifying institutions according to the new development initiatives, leading to the second survey to compare the pre and post results in 2021. In addition to adopting the agenda of the "Wazen" symposium, which will be announced later.

“Under “Wazen” program, we look forward to achieving three main objectives; forming the first-of-its-kind database for the health and fitness of Sharjah Government employees based on initiatives, decisions and activities that promote employees’ health and safety, introducing the employees to the foundations of a healthy lifestyle and spreading the culture of healthy nutrition and its impact on work productivity. In addition to enhancing the capabilities and culture necessary to create a supportive work environment for employees to adopt a healthy lifestyle,” Saif pointed out.

She stated that the first phase of the program included the selection of 5263 employees in government institutions in Sharjah, and the training of 10 field researchers, including 5 specialists and 3 researchers and 2 nurses.

She also reviewed the details and phases of the implementation of the "Wazen" initiative, which aims to reach more than 25 thousand people, who are following the social media accounts of the Department and its partners in this campaign, and others hundreds of thousands of followers of various media in the country.

Meeting Recommendations

The meeting concluded with raising a series of recommendations, which focused on coordinating with the Sharjah Health Authority and considering the possibility of including the employee's regular inspection services within the health insurance privileges of the Sharjah government employees.

In addition to examining the feasibility of holding a partnership with Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority, in terms of developing the standards of health and safety in the workplace and its compulsory implementation in all government institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The meeting also recommended the implementation of the provisions of the “Guide to Happiness and Well-being at workplace” issued by the National Happiness & Positivity Program at the government level in the Emirate of Sharjah.

It was also agreed with the Human Resources Department to hold workshops in the field of health and safety within the training hours approved by the Department.

In addition to benefiting from local experiences and practices in the field of promoting employees’ health and implementing them in government institutions in the Emirate of Sharjah. In this regard, the committee members recently visited the headquarters of the Sharjah Police in order to review their experience in the field of employees’ occupational safety.
