Morne Morkel may have quit international cricket after taking 544 wickets, but the 34-year-old fast bowler still wants to learn new things as he begins the new chapter of his cricketing life in the second season of the T10 League in the UAE.

A bowler who used to terrorise batsmen with his pace and bounce, Morkel believes the shortest format of the game gives him a chance to become an even better cricketer.

"Last year, I followed the first season quite closely. I was speaking to the guys in the South African team and watched a lot of Youtube videos," the lanky bowler, who will play for the Bengal Tigers, told reporters on Monday.

"I think it's exciting for me now to start a new chapter in my life. It gives me a great opportunity to learn new things and improve my skills. I still like to play a lot more T20 cricket, but it will also be a great platform for me to sharpen my skills going forward," he added.

"I always look to improve my game and get better. I think this is the perfect platform for me to develop my skills and help my team win the trophy."

The South African said it's the responsibility of players like him to make sure cricket's new format continues to rise. "I think it's also our responsibility to help the T10 brand grow. We should be putting our best skills on show," he said.

"I think that's for me very important to see the format grow. I want it to get bigger so hopefully it can get to the Olympics in future. It's the definitely the responsibility of the players."

Morkel hopes his experience of playing in Sharjah for South Africa will help him when the tournament starts on November 21.

"I think the key will be in knowing the conditions. Luckily for me, I have played for South Africa in Sharjah," he said.

"I know what the wicket and the conditions are going to be like. But I think it's going to be fast-thinking, adapting to the situation and you have to know what is the best ball for that moment.

"You have to try to execute that and if I come up in the winning side, it's great. I think it's going to be a fantastic competition between bat and ball. It's just a matter of us staying cool and trying to win those small moments and margins."

Morkel then thanked the owners of Bengal Tigers for creating a beautiful atmosphere in the team.

"I am just excited to be a part of a new family. Fantastic people and yeah I am really excited about playing for this team," he said.

"For me it's about getting it right in practice in the next couple of days before we play our first game on Thursday. Next couple of days, I will get an idea about the strategy and my role in the team."
