Saudi Arabia - The first batch of airport taxis equipped with smart services was recently launched at King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah. The move aims to equip the taxi sector with safer vehicles and keep pace with latest technologies to complement the development of the transportation system at Saudi airports.

Al-Safwa Limo Services, the operator of airport taxi services, first launched the new green taxis at the beginning of this year at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport (KKIA).

Nasser bin Dhalif, CEO of Al-Safwa Limo Services, said that it was agreed to provide 1,200 Hyundai Sonata 2020 model vehicles, which were supplied by Almajdouie Motors Company. The company won the tender for the operation of taxi services at KKIA, King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) and Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport (PMIA) in Madinah.

The service includes electronic payment options — Mada, Visa and MasterCard — and the cars are equipped with a direct tracking device, an emergency button and a smart screen that displays the price and evaluation of the trip, plus a surveillance camera.

“Every visitor to the Kingdom will witness a new leap in transportation services, thanks to the new airport taxis enhanced with the latest technologies to raise the efficiency and quality of the facilities provided, thus enhancing the confidence of visitors from around the world,” Dhalif said.

Yousef bin Ali Almajdouie, president of Almajdouie Group, said: “The success of the first phase of the green taxi plan at KKIA in Riyadh has strengthened confidence in our services on the one hand, and in Hyundai models on the other hand. We have worked together with our partners Al-Safwa Limo Services, to provide and equip the required cars to be ready to serve the passengers arriving at the Kingdom’s airports. This will undoubtedly give them a sense of satisfaction and peace of mind.”

He added: “As a private sector entity, we must participate in the implementation of some of the future government plans, especially those that entail the development of public transport services in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and its sustainable transport goals. As an official representative of the Hyundai brand in the eastern and northern regions of the Kingdom, our contribution of the Hyundai models achieves this goal.”

The General Authority for Transport is training taxi drivers across the Kingdom, to equip them with the necessary skills to handle the new vehicles and make them efficient in their ability to deal with visitors, pilgrims and tourists.
