A spectacular ice skating musical featuring some of Disney’s most famous characters will be held in Bahrain.

Disney on Ice: Passport to Adventure will take place between June 15 and 19 at Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The internationally showcased performance features a line-up of long-time Disney favourites, including the casts of the Little Mermaid, the Lion King and Peter Pan as well as the newly popular feature film Frozen.

Produced by Feld Entertainment, the show is being brought to Bahrain by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and is expected to welcome more than 2,300 visitors.

Details of the fun-filled family attraction were revealed yesterday at a Press conference attended by BTEA chief executive Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, Feld Entertainment vice-president for Europe, Middle East and Africa Steven Armstrong, and Sports and Entertainment Solutions marketing director Barney York.

“We made sure we had the first appearance in the Gulf and we were lucky that it ran parallel to the Eid holidays, which is an important season,” said Shaikh Khalid.

“When we look at the numbers of people visiting Bahrain during that time, it’s the peak, so for all the GCC and Bahraini residents I think it will be something special to have.

“Now we’re focusing on this lovely event of Disney on Ice and what’s unique about it is that it gathers all the Disney characters.”

It was revealed during the Press conference that all the performing dancers were highly-skilled athletes and former Olympians from around 15 countries, mainly Russia.

“Usually we would give ourselves about a week to set up and we build the ice from scratch, which takes about 14 hours to put together and it’s an incredible process,” said Mr York.

In 2016, Mr York worked with the BTEA to bring Disney Live! Mickey’s Music Festival to Bahrain which he described as a “phenomenal success”.

“I can assure you that Disney on Ice is the most fantastic family live experience that Bahrain will see for a long time until we come again,” he added.

The animation extravaganza will feature 12 shows running across five days.

Tickets for the event have gone on sale at manama.platinumlist.net.
