UAE, Dubai – Todd Thibodeaux, president of CompTIA, the leading provider of vendor-neutral skills certifications for IT professionals, recently visited the Middle East to host an event with Tawazun, the active industrial investor which partners with market leaders to build skills, products and services in the UAE. He was invited as a partner of AmCham Abu Dhabi, the trademark of the American Business Group of Abu Dhabi, part of the global network of American Chambers of Commerce.

With an audience of attendees from academic, corporate and government entities, both Tawazun and AmCham Abu Dhabi members and CompTIA clients, Thibodeaux discussed artificial intelligence and its role in the future of the workplace.

He outlined the most transformative technologies, the historical context of these advances, and how different sectors, job roles and wider society are likely to be affected. His presentation follows the appointment of Omar Bin Sultan Al Olama as the country's first Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence which is part of the UAE's ambition to be at the forefront of the global technological revolution.

Thibodeaux highlighted the five industries most likely to feel the impact are leisure and hospitality, insurance, the medical industry, legal and accounting and education. He also warned what this could mean for the future of our society and explored the pros and cons of the AI debate. He stated how AI can bring about creativity, where people have the time to think creatively as time-consuming admin is automated. Conversely, there is the risk of a case of ‘find work where you can get it’ with people struggling to cover the cost of living through work.

CompTIA is taking the issue of AI incredibly seriously and is creating a dedicated workforce think-tank to be the voice of the industry in the wake of automation.  For updates on this workforce, please visit the CompTIA website www.CompTIA.org
