Consider this scenario: It's raining, there’s a passenger in a self-driving car, and the car is wavering. There are two pedestrians on either side of the road: an old grandmother on the left and a young child to the right. The car can only swerve either left or right. The artificial intelligence on the car has a decision to make: who to save and who to kill?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) expert Dr. Muhammad Aurangzeb Ahmad says it's time to talk about AI and FATML (fairness, accountability and transparency in machine learning) from the Islamic perspective. We discuss ethics, fairness and bias in algorithms and machine learning with the Principal Data Scientist at U.S. start-up KenSci, and Affiliate Associate Professor at the University of Washington, USA.
