Indian engineering and construction company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced on Thursday that its Heavy Engineering arm has bagged orders for gasification equipment from China's Wuhan Engineering.

The company said in a press statement that it bagged the order "against stiff Chinese competition for Talcher Fertiliser, which is the first-of-its-kind Coal gasification project in India."

The statement didn't disclose the project or contract value but said the project would produce 1.27 MMTPA (Million Metric Ton Per Annum) of urea through the gasification of the mixed feedstock of Indian coal with high ash content and pet coke.

In February, Zawya had reported that L&T Construction's Metallurgical & Material Handling Strategic Business Group, in a joint venture with Chinese construction giant Power China, was awarded a large Design and Build contract by the UAE's Etihad Rail Company for Freight Handling Facilities at seven locations across the emirate.
