All shopping malls, commercial centres and salons have been allowed to reopen, but with strict implementation of the prescribed guidelines to stymie the spread of coronavirus. The Department of Economic Development-Ajman (DED-Ajman) issued a circular to restart these bussineses while spelling out protocols to be followed by them.

Ahmed Khair Al Balushi, director of control and consumer protection, said DED-Ajman has allowed the reopening of commercial centres, shopping malls, markets and wholesale stores to receive their customers from 12 noon to 9pm.

He added that they were asked to resume their activities but adhere to the precautionary and preventive measures as stated in the guidelines.

Cinemas, gyms, fitness clubs, prayer rooms and children's play areas will continue to be closed.

Caps on salon service

Al Balushi called on the owners of salons to comply with the limits mentioned in the guidelines, including the closure of the shop during the national sterilisation programme, encouraging customers to pre-book, and only "serve 30 per cent of the total capacity of the business".

The salon workers must follow physical distance of at least two meters between each other and the customer, as well as limit the offered service to shaving, hairdressing and manicure. They should not serve people over the age of 60 and children between three and 12 years, he underlined.

"The tools must be used only once with adherence to the preventive and hygienic conditions when replacing them. The employees should wear face masks and gloves and wash and sterilise their hands before and after each service, and cleanse, sterilise and disinfect tools, seats and stores daily and periodically."

Violators to be nailed

Al Balushi stressed that a team of inspectors will carry out inspection campaigns to check the implementation of the prescribed guidelines by the commercial centres and salons to ensure public safety.

Tough penalty will be slapped against any establishment found violating the orders and in case of repeated violations, they will be closed.

He pointed out that the guidelines are spelt out in Arabic and English on the department's website, and any violation can be reported at government contact centre at 80070.
