Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi City Municipality (ADM) on Saturday announced that it had launched a major campaign at the old and new Al Falah as well as surrounding areas to protect the city’s appearance.

The campaign focused on several aspects highlighted by combating peddlers and educating the public about the risks associated with dealing with such individuals. The campaign also addressed the phenomenon of abandoned vehicles as it distorts the urban appearance of the city.

The ADM called on community members to attend to their vehicles and to keep them clean to avoid having them impounded and being issued fines of up to Dh3,000 as stipulated by Law No. 2 of 2012.

The campaign also tackled the spread of unlicensed advertisements displayed on streets, plazas, public utilities, public and private buildings, lighting poles and entrances to buildings. The ADM said that fines of up to Dh1,000 would be issued, with offenders being required to pay the fine in 30 days or face prosecution.

The ADM urged the community to adhere to the requirements of placing posters and advertisements on the streets and to obtain the necessary permits to avoid violations.

As part of the campaign, inspection teams from the ADM also cracked down on outdoor shelters constructed at homes to ensure that owners have acquired the required permits, and that the shelters are compatible with the safety stipulations and public appearance standards.

In total, the campaign resulted in issuing 30 offences for abandoned vehicles and 55 offences for casual ads, and spotted 200 unlicensed advertisements.

The ADM said that it will be running its campaign throughout the year in Abu Dhabi to ensure the highest standards of health and safety for all community members.
