The Abu Dhabi and Dubai Sports Council on Wednesday announced the merger of the Abu Dhabi Tour and Dubai Tour to hold a unified tour under to carry the name 'UAE Tour' from next year 2019.

A memorandum to this effect has been signed on Wednesday by Arif Al Awani, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council.

The initiative has been announced during a press conference at the conference hall at the premises of Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

The MoU states that the Abu Dhabi Tour and Dubai Tour are to be merged and name of the event to be changed to UAE Tour for cycling according to a Press release

The merger aims to unify the national efforts to organise a cycling event that bears the name of the country following the great world success that Abu Dhabi Tour and Dubai Tour have attained.

Both the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Dubai Sports Council in conjunction with the UAE Cycling Federation will be addressing the Union Cycliste Internationale to list the unified UAE Tour in the agenda of the world cycling competition, starting 2019.

'It will be a seven-day, seven-stage and that will allow us to pass through all the Emirates,' Awani said. This is our aim and we hope that all the Emirates participate in it," Awani added.
