UAE - The Ajman Police have rolled out a new Dh35-million security project to provide seamless services to people, ensure safety of the residents and achieve the National Agenda 2021.

Major-General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of the Ajman Police, said the project includes construction of a new centre for traffic and patrols department in Al Jarf, establishment of a civil defence centre in Masfoot, and setting up of a new building to serve as the Ajman Police headquarters on the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Street. As part of this year's plan, the police are also working to build two new centres for social support. These will strengthen the relationship between the police and community members and contribute to solving societal issues.

"The buildings are expected to be completed within this year to facilitate residents and citizens of the emirate."

He added that the Ajman Police have carried out various projects in the past in compliance with the national agenda approved by the UAE Cabinet and have achieved good results. There has been a decrease in serious crimes by 25 per cent, and traffic accidents have dropped by 12 per cent, the top cop underlined. He pointed out that road fatalities are down with 15 deaths caused by traffic accidents in 2019, while 17 such deaths being reported in 2018.

Maj-Gen Al Nuaimi attributed these to intensified traffic patrols and sustained awareness programmes that instil traffic culture among the growing urban population in the emirate. He averred that the Ajman Police have won 88 international, local and regional awards in the field of institutional excellence and leadership in the last 10 years.

He said that last year, the Social Support Centre received 770 cases and resolved 96.5 per cent of them, mostly marital disputes, by helping the warring couples patch up.

He added that in 2019, financial wrongdoings topped the crimes chart, followed by assaults and fights, majority of which occurred in areas housing workers. The police are boosting patrols in these areas to reduce such assault incidents, as well as thefts being committed in commercial and industrial stores.
