626 noisy drivers slapped with fines, 12 black points in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Police revealed that 626 vehicles were seized for generating excessive noise whilst driving during the first quarter of 2018.

Drivers found guilty of this infraction are fined Dh2,000 and given 12 black points.

Lt. Col. Khalifa Al Khaili, head of traffic control department, said: "Loud sounds not only affect your hearing but also induce stress and anxiety. This can be reflected in the driving behaviour and can result in higher traffic accident rates."

"Motorists, especially young drivers, should avoid such excessive behavior, as some use sound amplifiers that can become an even greater distraction. Even turning on the stereo system full blast just to attract attention is considered a violation of the traffic law," Al Khaili warned.

He urged drivers against excessive honking, especially near hospitals and schools. "Drivers should not use it aggressively whilst notifying other drivers of road hazards or whilst demanding right of way. This can distract them from the road and can result in serious traffic accidents.

He pointed out that Abu Dhabi Traffic organised many awareness programmes in universities and higher education institutions about traffic laws, including several warning against the use of sound amplifiers to show off.
