The #4Humanity Covid-19 inactivated vaccine (Phase 3) trials in the UAE today reached a significant milestone with the 5,000th volunteer getting vaccinated. This is testimony to the national spirit of volunteerism and strength of the healthcare system that has enabled the speed of this achievement. The Phase 3 trials began in Abu Dhabi on July 16.

A wide range of more than 80 nationalities are currently participating in the trials, reflecting the diversity and commitment of the community in the country. The ongoing trial is open to all residents across the UAE.

The Phase 3 trial, aimed at finding a Covid-19 vaccine, is being led by Abu Dhabi's health department in partnership with Group 42 and Sinopharm CNBG.

The trial involves evaluating the effectiveness of the vaccine on a large population sample. If the trials are found to to be successful, Phase 4, which monitors the safety of the vaccine once it has been prescribed to patients, will begin.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) has also set up a centre for the #4Humanity programme in Sharjah. The Al Qarayen Health Centre will test volunteers wishing to participate in the Phase 3 trials of the Covid-19 vaccine. The Centre can register and screen over 500 volunteers a day and it is open to residents from Sharjah, Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
