Saudi Arabia is building over 8,900 houses for citizens in seven residential projects launched recently in the Western Medina region, according to the Housing Ministry.

The projects are part of an ongoing massive programme to bridge a housing supply-demand gap caused by rapid population growth.

“Sakani” (my home), a Ministry section overseeing such projects in partnership with the private sector, said the projects are spread over an area of around 2.7 million square metres and would provide more than 8,900 houses, villas and apartments.

They comprise “Durrat Al-Medina 1&2”, “Al-Jiwar”, “Jadat Al-Sakab”, “Bawabat Tiba”, “Rawasin”, and “Pearl of the home”, the report said.

A total 97 housing projects, providing over 143,000 units, are currently under construction through the Gulf Kingdom, it said.

Saudi Arabia, the world’s largest oil exporter and second in proven crude deposits, aims to lift citizen’s house ownership to 70 percent by 2030 to tackle its housing problems.
