The Federal Sports Commission of Ethiopia (FSC) planned to build a stadium in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd was the construction contractor. The consortium of JDAW Consulting Architects and Engineers, Design Sport and Laboratory for Visionary Architecture was the master plan consultant and MH Engineering PLC. was the design consultant. The project would spread over 600,000 sq.m, and would include the construction of 60,000 seats stadium. The second phase of the project includes a 6,000-ton steel structure project, a 6,500-square-meter stretched membrane project and an advanced sports broadcasting system, stadium speaker system, sports timing and scoring system, customer visit system and other sports technology projects. The project would strengthen the link between China and Ethiopia and help to promote Belt and Road Initiative .
