Background

PT Graha Power Kaltim planned to develop East Kalimantan 2X125MW Coal Fired Steam Power Plant Project , in Bontang, Kalimantan Timur, Indonesia. China Chengda Engineering Co Ltd was BOOT developer and EPC contractor of the project. PowerChina Sichuan Engineering Corp Ltd was another EPC contractor of the project. China Energy Engineering Group Zhejiang Thermal Power Construction Co Ltd, Dongfang Electric Corp and PT D&C Engineering Co were construction contractors of the project. China Power Engineering Consulting Group Southwest Electric Power Design Institute Co Ltd was a consultant of the project. The project involved the construction of a 250MW (2x125MW) coal-fired steam power plant, and 20km transmission line. It included the construction of a powerhouse, coal storage tanks, combustion chambers, steam generating units, pipeline infrastructure, cooling towers and chimneys, the installation of turbines, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines. This project was one of the important projects to promote the construction of "One Belt And One Road Initiative". The project would provide electricity for the economic development of Indonesia's new capital.
