Background

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) planned to develop Mender to Hana Asphalt Road Project, in Mender, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and People's Region, Ethiopia. SINOHYDRO Corporation Limited was the DB contractor. The project involved the construction of a 79.1 km road. The new road, to be completed in two years, would extend from Mender, a town 42Kms from Jinka, to Hana town, 15kms from Omo Kuraz Sugar Factory, one of the seven sugar factories under construction. This road will connect the sugar factory with Hana town and the Sawela-Maji road. This road would be constructed as an extension of the 41.7km asphalt concrete road. The purpose of the project was to ease the traffic congestion in the region.
