Background

Zambia Electricity Supply Co., Ltd. planned to develop 600 MW Zambia Solar Power Plant Project, in Chibombo district in Central province, Chirundu and Siavonga districts in southern Zambia. The project covered the construction of 3 solar power plants in three districts of Zambia each with 200 MW. PowerChina was the construction contractor of the project. The construction duration for each plant was expected to be 12 months. The project was expected to provide Zambian people with a cleaner and more reliable power supply, optimize the Zambian national energy structure, and improve the stability of power supply. Upon completion, it would greatly alleviate the domestic electricity shortage in Zambia, drive the development of the Zambian industry, mining and other surrounding industries, and at the same time create thousands of jobs during construction and operation, and promote local social and economic development.
