Background

Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd. planned to develop Colombo International Container Terminal Project, in Colombo Port , Colombo, Western, Sri Lanka. Colombo International Container Terminals Ltd (CICT) was a joint venture Company between China Merchants Holdings (International) (CMHI) (85%) and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (15%). The project covered the construction of a port terminal with 4 berth. The area was 580000 hectare. The berth depth was 18 m. The quay length was 1200 m. Total capacity was 2400000 TEUs. The project was a typical successful project under Belt and Road Initiative. This project was one of the largest foreign-invested projects in Sri Lanka. The project has made a huge contribution to Sri Lanka's rapid integration into the world.
