Background

Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd planned to develop Bandaranaike International Airport Expansion Project, in Katunayake, Western, Sri Lanka. China National Aero-Tech International Engineering Corporation was the contractor of runway. China National Chemical Engineering No.14 Construction Co Ltd was the contractor of apron C. The project covered the construction of airport with 20000000 visitors. The whole project included the runway upgrade, apron C upgrade and the construction of an administrative building. This airport was the most important airport in Sri Lanka. The project was the national key project. With Chinese participation, the project would help BRI construction.
