Background

Ecuador planned to develop 50 MW Ecuador Reed Bridge Wind Power Project, in Loja Province, Ecuador. Dongfang Electric International Corp was the contractor. The project covered the construction of 50 MW wind farm. The scope of the project contract included the design, supply, transportation, installation, commissioning, trial operation and operation and maintenance of 16 sets of complete equipment such as fans and box transformers. According to the contract, the project would install 16 direct-drive wind turbines independently with a stand-alone capacity of 3.125 MW and a blade length of 76 meters. The project was the first time that Dongfang Electric has entered the South American market after the European and African markets. It was by far the largest wind turbine project exported by Dongfang Electric overseas. It can significantly increase the revenue of power generation and reduce the cost of operation and maintenance.
