Background

CNOOC & Shell Petrochemicals Co Ltd planned to develop CSPC Huizhou Phase 3 Ethylene Project, in Huizhou, Guangdong, China. Shell Nanhai, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell and CNOOC were shareholders (each 50%). Phase 3 Ethylene Project included a 1.5 million t/y ethylene plant as the core of 14 sets of world-class scale production plant. It introducing international advanced technology production with high added value, high differentiation and competitiveness of high quality petrochemical products, to meet the needs of new high performance chemical materials and high-end chemicals market and development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater. The main products of the project included ethylene, propylene, butadiene, ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol, styrene monomer propylene oxide, linear alpha olefin, poly alpha olefin, metallocene polyethylene, etc. The project responded to Belt and Road Initiative and would prompt the development of China's petrochemical industry.
