Background

Zhanatas Wind Power Co Ltd planed to develop 100 MW Zhanatas Wind Power Station Project, in Zhanatas City, Zhambylskaya Oblast, Kazakhstan. Consortium of PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Co., Ltd and China Power International Development Ltd was the EPC contractor. The project covered the construction of a wind power station with the total installed capacity of 100 MW. The power plant would consist of 40 wind turbine generators of 2.5 MW each. Project would be developed using EPC form. The project would be the first renewable energy project on the China-Kazakhstan production capacity cooperation list to come on stream. After the project was put into production in 2020, it was expected to produce 350 million kWh of electricity annually, which could meet the electricity demand of millions of households and directly improve the current situation of power shortage in southern Kazakhstan. Project was reported as the largest wind power investment project in central Asia. It was co-developed by Kazakhstan and Chinese companies and was considered as one of priority projects located in country along Belt and Road Initiative.
