Background

Jalalabad Electric Power Co planned to develop 600 MW Anwara Gas Fired Combined Cycle Power Plant Project located in Anwara, Chittagong province of Bangladesh. Consortium of Powerchina International Group Ltd and China Energy Engineering Group Northwest Construction & Investment Co Ltd was the EPC contractor of the project. The project covered the construction of 600 MW gas fired combined cycle power plant. The project was the largest LNG gas turbine project in the Chittagong area of Bangladesh, with an annual power generation capacity of up to 5 billion kWh. After completion, it can significantly improve the current power shortage in the Chittagong area of Bangladesh and the southeast of Bangladesh, and make a significant contribution to the accelerated development of the industrial economy in Bangladesh. The project will also create a large number of employment opportunities for the local area and cultivate a group of experienced skilled workers, promote the local economic and social development and inject vitality into the Bangladeshi economy.
