Background

The Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA), on behalf of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE), plans to build the Mizan - Dima - Boma road in the South People National and Nationalities Regional State in Ethiopia. The JV of Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers & Consultants Pvt. Ltd. and Net Consult Consulting Engineers & Architects PLC is the construction supervision consultant for section 1 and Classic Consulting Engineers was the construction supervision consultant for section 2. MCC 17 was the general construction contractor of section 1. The project involved the construction of a 152 Km road in 2 phases. Section 1 included the construction of the 92 Km section from Mizan to Dima and contract 2 included the construction of the 60 Km road from Dima to Boma. The purpose of the project was to ease the traffic congestion in the region. And it was expected to help to link southern part of Ethiopia with South Sudan and also enable to enhance economic and social ties between the two countries. The road also interconnected different towns in South Ethiopia.
