Background

RioZim Limited planned to develop 2800 MW Gokwe Supercritical Coal-Fired Power Plant Project, in Gokwe, Midlands, Zimbabwe. Powerchina International Group Ltd was the EPC contractor of the project phase 1. China Gezhouba Group would also construct the project. The project covered the construction of coal-fired power plants with a total capacity of 2800 MW. Phase 1 of the project covered the construction of 2*350 MW coal-fired power plant, 2*236 km single-circuit transmission and transformation lines, 111 KM water supply pipeline from Lake Kariba to the power station, and some other infrastructures. Upon completion, Sengwa would be among Zimbabwe's two biggest power plants after the 2400 MW Batoka project.
