Background

National Grid Plc planned to develop 300 MW Spalding Natural Gas-Fired Energy Expansion Project, in Spalding, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom. Atlantic Projects Company (UK) Ltd were the contractor of the project. Simens Ag and Drake Engineering Ltd were the suppliers of the project. Intergen Servvices Inc was the shareholder of the project owner, Spalding Energy Expansion Ltd. Overseas International Xingye Ltd (a Chinese company) and Ontario TeachersInterGen Services Inc. The project covered the construction of a 300 MW open cycle gas turbine unit, gas infrastructure and so on. It was the first large-scale power plant project relying on an capacity contract and also the largest gas-fired power generation project in UK during the past 6 years. Upon completion, the project would provide much needed peaking capacity to the grid for UK electricity consumers and provide UK electricity system with additional flexibility to react promptly to sudden variations in consumer demand or unplanned outages in base load power generation.
