Harare Water Distribution Network Rehabilitation Project

Also known as: Harare Water Connection Replacement & Upgrade, Harare Water Infrastructure Replacement & Upgrade Project
Ongoing

Background

Harare City Council planned to develop Harare Water Distribution Network Rehabilitation Project in Harare, Zimbabwe. The project covered the construction of a 1520km new water supply pipeline system with valves, pressure reducing valves, flow meters and exhaust valves, 50 water supply monitoring stations, and a water supply monitoring center. China Gezhouba Group International Engineering Co Ltd was the Construction contractor of the project. The project would reduce physical water losses by 72 million liters per day, thereby increasing supply coverage by 72000 households. The project would also reduce non-revenue water by 25 percent, thus increasing revenue by about USD 21.6 million per annum. Areas that were currently not connected to the reticulation system would have access to clean and safe water and there would be a reduction in water-borne diseases.
