Also known as: Minas Hydropower Plant Project
Completed

Background

Corporacion Electrica del Celec SA planned to develop 3*90 MW Minas-San Francisco Hydroelectric Power Station Project, in Jubones River, Pucara, Azuay, Ecuador. Harbin Electric International Co Ltd was the general construction contractor. Geo Data S.A.R.L. is the feasibility study and design consultant. The project covered the construction of a gravity reservoir made of rolled concrete, a diversion system, the underground powerhouse, a reservoir, and so on. The project construction was completed in Jan 2019, and it passed its warranty and was transferred to the project owner in June 2020. As the third-largest hydropower station in Ecuador, the Minas Hydropower Project was regarded as one of the most important water conservancy projects in the Ecuadorian Pacific water system. It would improve and optimize the Ecuadorian power energy structure, provide more clean energy, and promote local economic development. On average, the project could reduce 690,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and use fossil fuels. At the same time, the project directly created job opportunities for nearly 2,700 jobs in Ecuador.
