• Duncan Howard, CEO at Zain Bahrain said: “Through BE WELL and other well-being initiatives that priorities our people’s mental health, we shall continue to foster an environment of inclusivity.”

Manama: Zain Bahrain, the leading Mobile Broadband network operator in the Kingdom, has become the first operator in Bahrain to recognize World Mental Health Day on October 10 by granting the day as a holiday to its entire workforce in 2021 and going forward.

The World Health Organization recognizes World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year. This year's theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is 'Mental Health in an Unequal World'.

The overall objective of World Mental Health Day is to raise awareness of mental health issues faced in the workplace and to mobilize efforts in support of mental health and advocacy against the social stigma. Zain Bahrain has developed initiatives promoting its employees’ well-being in order for them to enjoy a healthy work-life balance, making Zain Bahrain one of the most progressive companies in Bahrain.

In May 2021, Zain Bahrain introduced BE WELL, a ground-breaking mental health initiative for Zain personnel, which coincided with Mental Health Awareness Month. BE WELL is one of the first program of its kind to be offered across a private organization in the Kingdom which is aimed at creating a more inclusive organization that considers and supports its employees.

Commenting on Zain Bahrain embracing World Mental Health Day, Duncan Howard, CEO at Zain Bahrain said, “Through BE WELL and our other well-being initiatives that focus on our people’s mental health, we shall continue to foster an environment of inclusivity and create a positive impact on employee well-being and morale, making Zain an employer of choice.”

Mr Howard further continued, “On October 10, we hope that Zain staff - Zainers - will take the time off to appreciate one another, spend time with their friends and families, and make use of Headspace. As an organization, we are determined to ensure that our people are fully supported in every aspect of their lives, both at the office and away from it. We live in extremely complex times, and from our perspective it is critical that staff feel engaged and empowered to discuss whatever issues may be affecting them and find solutions to resolve them.”

Zain Bahrain became one of the first corporates in the Kingdom to introduce two ground-breaking activities shortly after BE WELL was launched; the first being a Group-wide subscription for all Zain employees to Headspace, a global leader in mindfulness and meditation, and the second was the provision of mental health counselling and therapy from psychologists. These sessions are provided virtually in partnership with Kuwait Counseling Center (KCC), one of the region’s leading psychological centers providing psycho-educational, comprehensive assessments, therapy and training services.

World Mental Health Day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and improvements that can be made to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.
