Cairo, Egypt

Uber, the world’s leading ride-sharing app and Fawry, the key player company in banking technology and e-payment service, have teamed up to offer customers a new choice in payment when it comes to paying for Uber trips in Egypt. The partnership will allow riders to buy Uber credit, known as Uber Voucher codes, at any of Fawry’s 60,000 stores via pin-on-receipt technology.

This initiative, the first of its kind for Uber across Europe, Middle East, and Africa and done in select markets globally, is part of Uber’s long term commitment to increasing mobility and better connecting Egypt. Riders will be able to purchase credit for friends and family, in addition to themselves; all they need to do is walk into any Fawry store to do so. Customers can buy Uber credit from EGP 15 to EGP 1,000.

Commenting on the partnership, Nader Museitif, Head of Business for Uber MENA, said: “The collaboration with Fawry is a testament to how two industries can work together to help technology reach wider sectors of the populations. Fawry and Uber share a similar goal when it comes to enabling accessibility to as many people as possible.

By offering consumers the choice to pay with Voucher codes, in addition to credit card and cash through the Fawry network, we are making it easier for people to reap the benefits of safe, reliable transport through Uber. We are proud of the work we are doing together and will continue to set the benchmark when it comes to innovative offerings.”

Fawry Managing Director, Mohamed Okasha, expressed his feelings of content and enthusiasm for the new partnership with an important company like Uber. He mentioned that such cooperation will give the chance for Fawry to facilitate the payment methods for more database of users, which comes in harmony with the company’s objectives, especially that this has added a new comer to Fawry’s list which is the transportation sector.

The announcement comes on the back of Uber recent investment of $20 million in Egypt, through its Center of Excellence, a customer support center in which over 400 Egyptians are currently providing support to riders and drivers across Middle East & Africa. The center is expected to employ over 1000 Egyptians by 2020.

Uber and Fawry are committed to driving the growth of digital payments and cashless transactions, to ensure seamless travel for users and aid further smart mobility initiatives and innovation in the region.
