University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus won 2016 Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA) for upcoming personality in Islamic Finance Academic role.

Dr. Nafis Alam, Director of the Centre for Islamic Business and Finance Research (CIBFR) and Associate Professor in Nottingham University Business School at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus has won the 2016 Global Islamic Finance Award (GIFA) for “Upcoming Personality in Islamic Finance (Academic) role.” The award was given to Dr Alam in recognition of his contribution towards Islamic finance research and education. The GIFA 2016 was organized by Edbiz Consulting at Fairmont Hotel, Jakarta, on September 29.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo was the guest of honour for the GIFA 2016 and received the prestigious Global Islamic Finance Leadership Award 2016 for his championship role in promoting Islamic banking and finance in Indonesia.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Alam said, “It gives me immense pleasure to accept GIFA’s ‘Upcoming personality Award in Islamic finance’. This award is a testimony for my effort to establish a specialized research centre at University of Nottingham and contribute towards the research and education for the Islamic finance stream. My sincerest appreciation goes to the GIFA Award committee for bestowing me with global recognition. I hope this award will propel me further to keep pushing for high quality research output in Islamic finance domain.”

Founded in 2011, GIFA celebrates the success of government, financial, academic institutions and individuals in Islamic banking and finance, and also aims to promote commitment to Islamic finance. Besides, there were 66 awards presented to Islamic financial institutions and individuals coming from 15 countries of the world, notably among them were Islamic Research Training Institute (IRTI); Dubai Islamic Bank; Bursa Malaysia; Indonesia Stock Exchange among others.
