Completion rate of basic infrastructure project of Sumail Industrial Estate in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate has touched 15%, informed Eng. Nasser Al Mabsali, Director of Projects' Department at PEIE. The project is expected to be completed by first quarter of 2017 with an estimated cost exceeding RO 39 million. The project involves development of infrastructure facilities of the estate on a total area of 753 hectares (The first phase involves an area of 548 hectares while the second phase involves an area of 205 hectares).

Al Mabsali said that the project also involves implementation of road works along 46.290 km for the first phase and 10.21 km for the second phase. "Moreover, the project comprises implementation of water network on 47.96 km for the first phase and 10.81 km for the second phase, as well as irrigation network on a length of 47.96 for the first phase and 10.52 for the second phase. Rainwater drainage network will be implemented as part of the project on a length of 36.16 km for the first phase and 13.11 km for the second phase, in addition to sewage network of 41.9 km length for the first phase and 10.38 km for the second phase, and fiber-optic network in cooperation with Oman Broadband Company of 32.41 km length for the first phase and 8.82 km for the second phase. Power cable works are also involved on a length of 50.6 km for the first phase and 15.95 km for the second phase," he pointed out.

He added that the project also includes implementation of wadi protection works on a length of 17 km. "Besides, the project consists of establishment of water tank in the first phase with a capacity of 2500 cubic meters of reinforced concrete with a pumping station with a capacity of 48 liters/sec; water tank in the second phase with a capacity of 2500 cubic meters of reinforced concrete with a pumping station with a capacity of 35 liters/sec; irrigation tank in the first phase with a capacity of 2500 cubic meters of reinforced concrete with a pumping station with a capacity of 41 liters/sec; and irrigation tank in the second phase with a capacity of 800 cubic meters of reinforced concrete with a pumping station with a capacity of 16.5 liters/sec. Additionally, other works are involved in the project including waste management, fencing, planting, parking, 184 security cameras for both phases, two main gates and three emergency exits," Al Mabsali added.

It should be noted that during 2015, Sumail Industrial Estate got an initial expansion on an area of 358,682 sqm and was able to localise 42 manufacturing and service projects. The number of projects under construction and mapping stages are amounted to 34, while the number of projects in the pilot production phase and those set for production are amounted to 17. During the same year, the estate met with more than 109 investors and urged the localised projects in the estate to commence their projects promptly. The estate also contributed in organising and sponsoring five events as part of its social responsibility initiatives for the wilayat's population in particular and the governorate in general.

Sumail Industrial Estate seeks at creating job opportunities for the national cadres either through circular that are distributed on a regular basis or through meeting with the representatives of factories and get acquainted with their future plans in recruiting national cadres. Given the significance of the environmental aspect, a specialised company has been appointed to study the environmental impacts and take all necessary measures to achieve highest levels of environmental requirements with constant coordination with parties involved in this aspect.

The strategic location of Sumail Industrial Estate shall attract the factories which are willing to expand close to the capital Muscat and to Rusayl Industrial Estate. Sumail Industrial Estate is an additional value for Al Dakhiliyah governorate, which aims at pushing the governorate's development forward and contributing towards the advancement of the national economy. The estate has been divided into several sectors comprising food industry, plastic materials industry, steel industry, marble industry, building materials industry; warehouses; among other industries.
