MUSCAT: Giving a major thrust to empowerment of Omani youth in line with Oman Vision 2040 strategy for national talent development, Sohar International welcomed the 2nd batch of Tomohi Internship Programme trainees. Twenty selected graduates are attending the year-long training programme which started at the Bank’s Head Office on 1 March at a ceremony attended by senior Management Team members.

Reaffirming the Bank’s leadership in national talent development programmes, Mr. Mohammed Mahfoudh Al Ardhi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Sohar International, said: “Laying a strong foundation for future development, Oman attaches prime importance to national manpower development initiatives. In line with Oman’s Vision 2040 strategy, professional development of competent young Omanis continue to be in focus across all major sectors. The Bank recognises its social commitment to empower youth and is focused on further equipping existing employees and attracting potential aspirants to benefit from ongoing talent development initiatives.”

Welcoming the new batch of Tomohi trainees, Mr. Ahmed Al Musalmi, Chief Executive Officer, said: “Tomohi reflects the Bank’s commitment to promote a qualitative shift in national workforce through relevant training and internship programmes. Sohar International is renowned for providing rewarding career growth opportunities for competent employees and the Tomohi programme is designed to further energise the Bank's human resources development initiatives in line with the Sultanate’s quest for youth empowerment.”

Launched in 2018, Tomohi is a one-year internship programme aims  at skill development and enhancing employability of ambitious and high calibre Omani college and university graduates. The training provides hands on working experience to build successful careers.

Omani graduates holding a Bachelor’s degree in business-related specialisation or Civil Engineering with a minimum of 2.5 GPA were eligible to apply. Envisaged to serve as the foundation for a rewarding banking career, Tomohi highlights the Bank’s social commitment to support professional development of competent young Omanis. Tomohi trainees are entitled to attractive stipend during the training period. On successful completion, the trainees are also considered for open positions in the Bank.

The first batch of Tomohi trainees had a high rate of absorption within Sohar International. The other Tomohi trainees also found suitable placements with leading institutions in Oman.

The year-long training covers all areas of banking operations such as retail, corporate, finance, investment, treasury, asset and wealth management, information technology. The training in a highly technology oriented environment provides a unique opportunity to interact and learn from some of the brightest banking experts in Oman.

Tomohi underscores the Bank’s focus to unlock the potential of Omani graduates and empower them with expertise to grow in their careers. The comprehensive training covering all major banking fields help Omani graduates to take first steps into a rewarding career and create future leaders for the nation.

Reaffirming its leadership in national talent development programmes, Sohar International has achieved over 90 per cent Omanisation, giving priority for Omani youth to occupy important positions at all levels, including senior management positions.
