Abu Dhabi, UAE: The 2nd Edition of International Patient Experience Symposium by BII World, supported by Ministry of Health & Prevention UAE and Department of Health Abu Dhabi opened today with over 300 attendees at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Abu Dhabi under the theme, ‘Reviving Compassion & Innovation at the Heart of Healthcare 4.0’. The 2-day symposium gathered regional and international healthcare leaders from Department of Health Abu Dhabi, Ministry of Health & Prevention, Cleveland Clinic, United Eastern Medical Services (UEMedical) Group, Apollo Hospitals Group, John Hopkins Aramco Healthcare, King Hussein Cancer Centre, Amana Medical and Rehabilitation Hospital, Anadolu Medical Center, NHS England etc; each sharing their transformational models of improving quality, lowering costs and strengthening patient-provider experience.

Dr. Khaled Anwar, Consultant in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Amana Healthcare and Conference Co-Chair in his opening remarks said “Every patient deserves a chance to live the best life possible. This means taking into account family, culture and religion alongside world-class care to create the best environment for rehabilitation and recovery. It also means giving patients access to a truly integrated continuum of care: one that includes not only hospital- and clinic-based services but also a full continuum of post-acute services such as long-term care, inpatient rehabilitation and specialized home healthcare.”

Dr. Madhu Sasidhar, Chief Medical Officer & Consultant in Pulmonary Medicine & Critical Care Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi while delivering keynote address on ‘Restoring Humanity in Healthcare’s Digital Age’ commented, “With the advances in Artificial Intelligence, robotics, telehealth and in the race to digitize every aspect of the healthcare journey, we need to retain the human touch that ensures the highest standard of care for our patients. Panellists including Daniele Rigamonti, Chief Executive Officer, John Hopkins Aramco Healthcare, Aysha Ali AlMahri, Chief Nursing Officer, Abu Dhabi Health Services Co. – SEHA, Dr. Varun Katyal, Chief Executive Officer – Dubai & Northern Emirates, VPS Healthcare, Dr. Sherbaz Bichu, Chief Executive Officer & Specialist Anesthetist Aster Hospital, Hamad Al Mehyas, Deputy CEO, National Health Insurance Company- Daman, Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi, Managing Director & CEO  of UEMedical shared their respective views on how can healthcare organizations build strong patient loyalty that meets the demands of value-based care.

Daniel De Schryver, Patient Engagement & Advocacy Lead EMEA from Janssen threw light on Patient Engagement Globally & at the Regional Level.

Vivek Shukla, Director- Healthcare & Lifesciences MENASA from Frost & Sullivan moderated a Patient-Provider Panel Session with a theme of ‘Patient Power: Tapping the Most Unused Resource in Healthcare’.  Healthcare experts like Dr. Karen Rigamonti, Leadership & Executive Coach, Dr. Hişam Alahdab, Chief Operating, Quality and Safety Officer, Anadolu Medical Center, Ellen Burkhalter, Program Director, Advance Practice Nursing, King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre, Dr. Anne-Miek Vroom, Founder & Director, IKONE Foundation ; Medical Sociologist & Patient Expert participated in this panel discussion and discussed what do health care providers need to do differently in order to motivate and empower patients to take greater role and responsibility for managing and improving their health.
