Helping more people go cashless, National Bank of Oman (NBO) has enhanced its QR code payments capabilities, with 6,500 Point of Sale (POS) machines enabled to date. As the first bank in Oman and the GCC region to launch QR code payments through POS machines, NBO has tied up with many of the country’s most widely-used merchants including Al Maha Petrol stations, Oman Oil, Nesto, Spar and MacDonald’s, to offer customers easy payments through any local mobile wallet. Continuing to upgrade and expand the service, it’s part of the bank’s overarching digitalisation strategy, which sees it cater to the rapidly growing digital payments landscape while offering the best possible banking experience.

Maha Al Raisi, Head of Retail Products at NBO, said, “Contactless payments are gaining prominence in Oman, offering a more convenient, more secure, and safer alternative to cash. As part of our leading position in the market, we are constantly building on our portfolio of digital and customer-friendly solutions, one of these being our pioneering mobile wallet. Allowing customers to make instant payments using the QR codes with the utmost ease, all they have to do is open their bank app, scan the POS machine screen after generating the barcode and pay.”

Eliminating the need to physically go to branches, remember cards, or handle cash, the bank’s pioneering mobile wallet offers a wide range of user-friendly features for secure and easy transactions. As well as making QR code payments, customers can send and receive money locally, check their wallet balance, top-up and withdraw, anytime and anywhere. Providing an enhanced and seamless banking experience, its products and services allow customers the freedom to manage their money as part of their lifestyle, through personalised usage settings at the touch of a button.
