Dubai, UAE: The Gatorade Company, a division of PepsiCo, the global food and beverage company, held the first ever Gatorade Fuel Lab in the UAE to teach athletes in the Emirates the importance of fueling their body the right way to help achieve peak performance during athletic activity.

Gatorade drink is scientifically formulated to help athletes maintain their endurance performance and enhance their hydration during the course of a game or athletic activity, based on more than 50 years of research by the Gatorade Sports Science Institute that shows athletes need adequate fuel and hydration throughout training and competition.

To better meet athlete needs, Gatorade and the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) create products supported by the latest sports science and developed in collaboration with the world’s greatest athletes to provide fuel, fluid and nutrients in all phases of athletic activity.

Athletes lose more than water through sweat and it is essential for them to replace those losses to help perform at their best. Gatorade helps to replenish fluids lost in sweat, and the calories in Gatorade also serve a functional purpose for athletes. Gatorade is scientifically formulated to give athletes energy (in the form of carbohydrates) to fuel working muscles so they can perform at their best during athletic activity.

During the Gatorade Fuel Lab, more than 320 athletes learnt about performance based hydration backed by science through a panel conducted by Rebecca Randell, senior scientist at the Gatorade Sports Science Institute, and athletes from around the region. Participants had the opportunity to test their athletic capability and experience the benefits of Gatorade for themselves through the virtual reality sports activations and a number of challenges

Explaining how Gatorade provides athletes with the fuel and fluids they need for peak performance, Randell said: “When you sweat, you lose electrolytes such as sodium and potassium. These electrolytes are important to regulate fluid balance in your body. Significant loss of electrolytes and fluid can negatively impact athletic performance, especially during long and high intensity training sessions or when exercising in the heat. Years of research have resulted in the creation of a scientifically-backed formula that combines the key ingredients athletes need; Gatorade replenishes lost electrolytes, stimulates thirst so that athletes will drink more and stay hydrated, and contains carbohydrates to fuel performance.”

Dani Afiouni, Marketing Director, Non-sparkling Beverages, PepsiCo MENA, said: “Backed by the latest sports science and in collaboration with some of the world’s greatest athletes, Gatorade is the ideal option for athletes looking for hydration and sports nutrition in one functional and convenient beverage. As the choice of numerous professional and amateur athletes across the world, Gatorade products are available on the sidelines of major sporting events to help fuel the best athletes in the game. Now athletes in the UAE can enjoy the same Gatorade benefit.”

Over the years, Gatorade has been associated with some of the world’s most elite athletes, sports teams, and sporting events. Gatorade is available in Cool Blue, Orange, Lemon-Lime, and Grapefruit flavors at supermarkets across the UAE.
