Simultaneously with the advent of winter, a season when diseases related to ear, nose and throat are more common, Dr. Vayangankar commented: “If you have cold with discolored mucus secretions, runny-nose, nasal blockage, sticky throat with irritation, headache, watering eyes, facial  pain, not able to smell properly for more than three months, do not ignore it. You may be having chronic sinusitis and/or may have any nasal pathology like nasal polyposis, fungus, nasal mass. This requires an immediate medical interreference for diagnosis and treatment.”

Dr. Vayangankar also shared some advice with regards to the right use of nasal spray, stating that several steps should be followed in the process. These steps include, bending the neck forward such that the chin is touching the chest, inserting the tip of the nozzle into the nostril along the floor of nose straight, pressing the nozzle firmly and forcefully to release the aerosol medicine into the nasal cavity and raising the neck up after the process.

The specialist also advised patients to follow certain steps after the process, directing them to breath normally and not forcefully, taking hot water steam for at least 20 minutes, and to use the spray twice a day once in the morning and again at night before going to bed for the best results.

It’s worth mentioning that the ENT department at Al Salam Specialist Hospital provides a wide range of services to patients of all age groups. This includes examination, diagnosis and treatment of a number of diseases and disorders.
