The Easa Saleh Al Gurg Group (ESAG) on the 9th July launched the inaugural session of ‘The Art of Dialogue’ - a series of cultural talks designed to encourage collaboration and knowledge sharing, spearheaded by Muna Easa Al Gurg, Director of Retail, ESAG.

The first panel ‘Art as Identity’ welcomed a distinguished panel of luminaries from the regional art scene and included HE Noura Al Kaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, and artists Emirati Ammar Al Attar and Iraqi Rand Abdul Jabbar in a session moderated by art advisor and cultural strategist Myrna Ayad.

Held at the ESAG Design Hub at the Dubai Design District, the session tackled the need to preserve local and regional culture for future generations through innovative practices as well as merging tradition with the latest trends across the arts. The event witnessed an eclectic set of attendees, spanning government, business, urban planning and the creative arts.

“Our country was founded on tradition and heritage, and continues to evolve in tandem with rapid modernity. A key pillar in achieving this is ensuring that our traditions and cultural identity are passed on to generations to come,” said HE Noura Al Kaabi. “To accomplish this, we must focus on inspiring creative minds across the UAE, whilst also leaving a legacy. The UAE boasts robust platforms that support both established and emerging artistic talent. These platforms are not only local, but also elevated to an international stage that allows talent to be recognised globally and showcase their unique Emirati identity.”

Ammar Al Attar presented his work ‘Reverse Moments’, a series of images encompassing the history and traditions of the UAE as a form of documentation and preservation. Rand Abdul Jabbar, meanwhile, discussed her work in Ana, Iraq where she worked with a group of archaeologists to preserve the city’s Ana Minaret that was recently destroyed.

Muna Easa Al Gurg, Director of Retail at ESAG, said: “As a Group with a diverse portfolio, we are always exploring ways in which we can innovate while staying true to our roots that are imbedded in UAE culture. The aim of the ‘Art of Dialogue’ series is to provide a platform for creative minds across the local and regional arts world to share their knowledge and insights to preserve the wonderful history and heritage of our country while encouraging emerging artists to push the boundaries even further.

“It was an honour to host such influential figures for the first session, which was enlightening and thought-provoking. We look forward to a successful series of encouraging dialogue and facilitating collaboration.”
