Dubai, UAE: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) reminds its customers to periodically check for potential leaks in internal water connections, as such leaks can cause significant wastage and damage to properties, with pre-emptive action also conserving natural resources.

Water tanks, bathrooms, kitchens, and swimming pools are the most likely areas, where leakage can occur. Leakages from water tank are due to deterioration of the tank body or its connections, or its improper positioning. It can also occur in taps, pipes, toilet tanks and water heaters, due to aging and lack of maintenance. Water spots on floors, walls and roofs, or around the washing machine are likely due to leaks in internal connections, or from the house irrigation system within the property.

The best way to detect water leaks is the ‘High Water Usage’ alert service provided by DEWA. Customers can be immediately notified of high water usage that could indicate possible internal leaks and take quick preventive maintenance for a greener Dubai. Other methods to detect leakages is through the DEWA bill or smart water meter.

DEWA has very competent systems to detect external water leakage and is responsible for connections and maintenance up to the meter, while the customer is responsible for internal connections after the meter. This applies to the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
