Consul General of UK in Dubai and the Northern Emirates visits DEWA

Dubai: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA), has met HE Andrew Jackson, Consul General of UK in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, as part of DEWA’s meetings with diplomats to foster bilateral relations, cooperation and exchange knowledge.

Al Tayer welcomed the UK Consul General and talked about the importance of increasing cooperation and advancing the contribution of British energy and water companies to projects in Dubai and the UAE. He also confirmed the role of the strategic cooperation between DEWA and British establishments in water, and renewable and clean energy.

The MD&CEO then presented DEWA’s current projects and strategic initiatives to support the vision of the wise leadership. He stated that DEWA's strategy supports the UAE Centennial 2071, the UAE Vision 2021, and the Dubai Plan 2021 to ensure a sustainable and happy future and make the UAE number one in everything.

Al Tayer also highlighted DEWA’s expertise in reshaping the future of energy by innovating a model for future utilities in the production, transmission, and distribution of electricity and water. DEWA operates as per the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, with specific objectives to generate 75% of Dubai’s total power output from clean energy by 2050. To achieve this goal DEWA has launched a number of green initiatives. One of these is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park: the largest single-site solar power project in the world based on the Independent Power Producer model (IPP), with a total planned capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW) by 2030 at a total investment of AED 50 billion.

Jackson praised DEWA’s efforts to develop Dubai’s and the UAE’s energy sector. He also commended DEWA’s services, which has resulted in its high ranking internationally.
