• 63 Carrefour stores — in total — will be up and running across Egypt by the end of 2020
  • Carrefour enhances its digital services in a bid to double the number of its online customers

Cairo, Egypt: Carrefour, operated in Egypt by Majid Al Futtaim, has underlined its commitment to the Egyptian customers and communities it serves by investing EGP 200 million in the Egyptian economy over the course of 2020. This investment is part of the brand’s ambitious plan to expand across the country.

Carrefour Egypt’s investment in the local economy is already paying dividends, with the brand opening new stores in locations and communities spanning from Cairo’s Al-Azhar, Al Salam and Mivida, to Alexandria’s Zaki Ragab and Winget. These new stores include Mivida’s modern and well-equipped 500 metre square concept store, and the new 1,200 metre square supermarket in the Zaki Ragab neighbourhood of Alexandria. In addition to these openings, the brand aims to launch nine more stores by the end of the year, bringing the total number of Carrefour branches in Egypt to 63.

As part of its expansion plan, Carrefour Egypt aims to enhance its digital presence with the development of a more streamlined, integrated and cutting edge e-commerce channel, with a view to doubling the number of its online customers. This investment will transform the brand’s digital retail services, greatly improving online shoppers’ customer journeys and offering them even more choice, convenience, accessibility and quality.

Jean Luc Graziato, Carrefour Egypt, Country Manager, said, “We believe that as a vital contributor to the economy, we have a strong social and economic responsibility towards the Egyptian customers and communities that we serve. Carrefour plays an integral role in boosting the local economy through its new business investments and the launch and development of online stores across various locations in Cairo and Alexandria. Carrefour’s commitment to the community extends to maintaining price stability and stock availability across all stores in Egypt. With the recent rise of online shopping, Carrefour has also employed an additional team to support and improve the capabilities of its E-Commerce and digital platforms. This will help to ensure that demand is adequately met on all fronts, and we continue to provide the people of Egypt access to our wide range of high value products at affordable prices.”

The expansion of the brand’s digital presence will consolidate Carrefour’s omni-channel offerings, providing a robust e-commerce infrastructure that enables customers to move seamlessly between digital and physical channels. This greatly improves customers’ shopping experiences, catering to the needs of modern customers. Accordingly, Carrefour Egypt has outlined plans that will ensure that 18 of its local branches provide food delivery across Cairo and Alexandria. This will allow Carrefour’s digital platform users to enjoy greater convenience with the addition of new features designed to facilitate smoother and easier payment processes. A key feature added to the brand’s online service is the one-time money capturing operation; translating to a payment effective once and only when items are ready to be shipped. With these newly implemented digital features, Carrefour will be able to serve double its current customer capacity by November 2020.
