Algiers, Algeria 23rd October 2014
The Mowgli Foundation, (Mowgli) an award-winning, UK headquartered mentoring organization and Algerian Implementation Partner organisation, MedafCO Consulting, have established a network of 4 regional Chapter Boards in Algeria, made up of Mowgli Alumni members, and have begun training a further 6 Algerian facilitators to further embed local ownership and and support the sustainability of Mowgli's mentoring ethos and program within Algeria's entrepreneurial ecosystem. These initiatives are part of the year 3 project sponsored by the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office in Algeria, through the Arab Partnership Fund.
The 4 Chapter Boards, which are strategically located within key business hubs across the country; Algiers, Oran, Constantine and Timimoun, will support Mowgli-Medafco in achieving greater outreach for the project, ensuring wider recruitment of new entrepreneurs and mentors for upcoming programs and providing on-going localised and regional support, learning and networking opportunities to further nurture the entrepreneurial ecosystems across and within Algeria.
To empower the 4 Algerian Chapter Boards to be the crafters, developers and drivers of this initiative, a Chapter Boards Strategy Workshop was successfully conducted with 14 graduated Mowgli Entrepreneurs, Mentors and Facilitators on 8th October 2014, in Algiers, facilitated by an Algerian Mowgli Facilitator, Mustapha Koriba.
On the 18th and 19th October, a second Train the Facilitator (ToF) workshop was conducted in Algiers and saw 6 Algerian Mowgli Mentors begin their training to become Mowgli Facilitators. This will increase Mowgli's capacity for delivery in Algeria as well as further enabling and supporting the project's post year 3 sustainability objectives.
Kathleen Bury, Mowgli's CEO commented: "Our and the British FCO's objective behind this 3 year project was to introduce Mowgli's mentoring program to Algeria, gain a solid alumni base and empower local ownership to ensure the sustainability of the program and mentoring-centred entrepreneurship ecosystems in Algeria. These 2 initiatives and the appetite of the Algerian Alumni base to support us and this project gives us great hope that by the end of March 2015, our desire to develop a local Mentoring Foundation in Algeria, which is funded and run by Algerians for the Algerian people can be realised".
Kamel Osmane, MedafCO's Director General commented: "Mowgli-MedafCO boards were successfully established to help ensure the succession and continuity of the mentoring program in Algeria. Candidates selected from facilitators, mentors and entrepreneurs attended the workshop and have jointly co-developed a roadmap that can boost and sustain the program. We are delighted with the progress made and wish to express our gratitude to the British FCO for funding the program for the 3rd year."
