Abu Dhabi: The Zayed University Department of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) has recently organized the Assistive Technology Awareness Event to showcase the latest technologies applied to empower students of determination to become independent learners.

The event saw the participation of several specialized companies in the field of accessibility services in the UAE and the region, where they’ve interacted with many students and faculty members to educate them about different forms of disabilities, and also identify forms of learning difficulties.

Fatma AlQassimi, Director of SAS, said, “Through our daily work and interaction with Students of Determination, we have found that the assistive technology and apps empower students to become independent learners. Independence is a crucial foundation for their academic success and leads to autonomy in their working lives.”

She added that the department is keen on hosting similar activities and events, to learn from the best in the market, and assign their latest technologies which enabled Zayed University Students of Determination to fulfill their highest academic aspirations.

Wasan Aqrabawy, Senior Executive at Sky Medical Equipment and Supplies, a leading medical distribution company in the UAE, said, “Most patients utilize around only 10 percent of their assistive tools and technologies, simply because they weren’t aware of the recent system updates.”

“Such seminars are essential, as it connects both medical companies and end-users to study optimized technologies. We also note down major companies’ needs and requirements to supply them with all the necessary tools available. We are seeking to explore the international accessibly services market and adapt the latest to ensure a unique better experience to all People of Determination,” Aqrabawy said.

The event showcased the latest accessibility services adapted by Al Nattiq Technologies, Sky medical equipment, and supplies company, Al Shomoukh Trading for Technical & Medical supplies Company, and Braille House.
