Abu Dhabi: The leadership of Al Jazira Sports and Culture Club (AJC) has provided an update on the club’s progress on and off the field one year on from launching its new vision and development plan - ‘One Team, One Goal; Rich History, Bright Future’. 

The special Suhoor gathering was attended by board members, current players, renowned former players and supporters of the Al Jazira Sports Club, the ‘Pride of Abu Dhabi’. The event was held to demonstrate the impressive progress that has made to put solid foundations in place that can now be built on as it aims to become a model for a successful sports club in the UAE.

The event was attended by HE Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Board member of Al Jazira Cub, Chairman of Al Jazira Football Company, HE Hamad Bin Mohamed Burook, Former Chairman of Al Jazira Sports Club, HE Rashid Ateeq Al Hamli, Board member of Al Jazira Club, Chairman of Al Jazira's other sports company and Board members and Directors of Al Jazira Sports, including Khalid Mohammed Blamma, Hamad AlHur AlSuwaidi, Tariq Ahmed Al Masoud and Ayed Mabkhout Al Hajri.

The meeting was also attended by Board members and Directors of Al Jazira's other sports company and Al Jazira Capital Real Estate Investment and Development including Haliman Mubarak Al Hamili, Mr. Hashim Al Fardan, Abdullah Omar Mukher, Awad Hawishl Al Yaqoubi, Adel Ibrahim Al Marzouqi, Saeed Al-Rumaithi, Saeed Bin Omair, Shaheb Issa Boushahab. Former members and directors of the club Saeed Al-Suwaidi, Murshid Al-Humeiri and Hassan Musa Al Qamzi were also present with many former and current players.

His Excellency Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Vice Chairman of the Al Jazira Sports Club began his remarks by conveying the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Honorary President and Chairman of the Honorary Board as well as His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs and the Vice Chairman of the Honorary Authority and the Club President.

HE Dr Sultan highly commended the club’s leadership over the past 12 months for its commitment to applying and ensuring best practice methods across the business and for adhering to the highest standards of performance to build on the club's long history as it works towards a bright future of success and excellence.

He said: "Through the vision of our leadership this club has built a history of success on the pitch that has made it the pride of Abu Dhabi and that has continued this season, but the strides we have made off the pitch should not be underestimated. The club members are also committed to demonstrating positive values across the organisation, such as team spirit, constant ambition to achieve, integrity, sporting ethics and passion for the true essence of sport.

"During the past year, Al Jazira has witnessed a major effort to lay the foundation for sustained institutional success in all aspects of the club's activities, including governance, institutional work, financial management and long-term plans to invest in training, developing and refining young players' skills and attributes. In addition to this there has also been considerable effort to strengthen the close ties between the club and its large fan base in Abu Dhabi and across the UAE.

"Significant progress has been made and I would like to pay tribute to the efforts of the Board of Directors and the Executive Management of all the club’s companies. I would also like to thank the Abu Dhabi Sports Council for their unwavering support throughout the years. We must continue working at the highest levels to match the great ambitions of Al Jazira Club and fans, ensuring that it will be a successful role model for sports clubs in the UAE, Asia and the world.”

Alongside opening remarks by Dr. Al Jaber, the Suhoor event included a discussion on the development, modernization process and corporate governance principles applied to put the club on the path to sustainable success and creating plans to achieve future aspirations to set an example of successful sports clubs in the region.

HE Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Board member of Al Jazira Club, Chairman of Al Jazira Football Company, revealed the club is working on implementing a long-term plan that helps the team win local and regional titles in the coming seasons. Additionally, the club plans to focus on developing talent through the Al Jazira Academy to form an integrated team with Emirati and other local talent.

During the discussion, HE Rashid Al Hamli, Board member of Al Jazira Club, Chairman of Al Jazira's other sports company, highlighted the commendable efforts of Abu Dhabi Government efforts to promote health, education and personal development of the youth. His Excellency pointed out that the club is now working towards achieving this shared with vision with Abu Dhabi Council. The club is offering its facilities and training along with incentives for the youth to pick up sports like basketball, volleyball among others.

Earlier this month Al Jazira Club announced its Community Outreach campaign where it invited people from all sectors of the Abu Dhabi community to give their feedback to help it shape its future offering thereby putting the community at the heart of everything it does.

At the 2018 Ramadan event, His Excellency His Excellency Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber had stressed the importance of re-building the club from its roots to transform it into a sustainable, profitable business that puts the Abu Dhabi community at the heart of everything it does.
