Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi University (ADU) hosted the ADU School Principals and Counselors Forum in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK). The event aimed to bring together educational counselors from primary and secondary educational institutions in the UAE to exchange knowledge and expertise on the latest practices in the management of child behavioral issues in schools. It also shed light on the role of the counselor in positively impacting a student’s academic experience.

The event, entitled ‘Educational Counseling: Reality and Aspirations’, was organized by ADU’s Al Ain campus and was attended by more than 50 school principals and counselors. It focused on topics of concern such as dealing with specific behavioral issues like bullying.

Dr. Mohammed Fteiha, interim Campus Director commented, “The forum is an important opportunity to help principals, counselors, and teachers further enhance their knowledge and disciplinary management skills, contributing to successful academic outcomes for students. Schools are platforms for students to grow professionally and personally before pursuing their higher education and embarking on their career paths. As educators, we need to focus on developing our capabilities and qualifications to better assist students and help prepare them for the next step.”

The forum also highlighted the best practices and most effective strategies in educational counseling, as well as the counselor’s role in enhancing the performance of students. This will encourage inclusion and engagement within the community.

Mohamad Fathi, a social worker from Al Zaidya School for Boys, commented, “These types of workshops are very beneficial to all educators within their various levels of experience. The knowledge exchange enriches our understanding, provides us with new perspectives, broadens our horizons as educators, and encourages us to try new methods with our students. With these tools, we will be able to better identify issues within our community and assist young innovators at the start of their professional journeys.”

The forum also served to increase community engagement and facilitate stronger relationships between ADU and schools in Al Ain City. The schools that took part in the forum included Al Zayediya School, Future International School, Al Dhafra Private schools, Al Ain Juniors School, Um Khalthom School, Al Shiyam School, Al Nashaa Al Saleh Private School and other schools at Al Ain city.

ADU will be hosting an open day in early June in Abu Dhabi to provide potential students with the opportunity to enquire about the internationally accredited programs available at the university’s three campuses.
