Target on Saturday said it was working on a problem that prevented customers in the United States from paying for their purchases.
Media reports said the problem had hit Target stores across the country.
The retailer tweeted that it was working on the issue. Target did not give any reason for the outage and was not immediately reachable for further comment.
The outages lead to scenes like this one in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania — with long lines, and abandoned shopping carts. Frustrated shoppers tweeted through the outage with the hashtag #targetdown, calling it 'the apocalypse' and commending Target employees for handling the situation well.
“To my fellow target employees, stay strong in this dark time. #targetdown”.
