BEIRUT: The Lebanese pound fell against the dollar Friday, trading at around LL8,200 on the black market as Cabinet formation complications are still lingering.

Black market exchangers were selling the dollar for LL8,225 and buying it for around LL8,175. The pound has witnessed a constant retreat against the dollar, trading at an average of LL8,100 Thursday.

President Michel Aoun Thursday called on the current caretaker government to have a greater role in dealing with the countrys deteriorating economic situation, in a clear sign that Cabinet formation is not close.

Aouns call came a day after France and the United Nations had organized an international video conference Wednesday to mobilize humanitarian aid to Lebanon following the devastating Aug. 4 explosion, during which international actors urged rival Lebanese leaders to quickly form a new credible government to enact reforms.

French President Emmanuel Macron and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the creation of a fund handled by the World Bank, the UN and the European Union to provide support for Lebanon, including food, health care, education and the reconstruction of the Beirut Port.
