This will be music to many ears. Free Wi-Fi will now be available at public parks and public beaches across the emirate of Sharjah.

The service, which will be rolled out in phases, will initially be available in parks and beaches at Falaj, Al Qarain, Nasiriyah, Al Nouf, Al Ramtha, Khezamia, Al Majaz, Al Quoz, Abu Shagara parks and Sharjah National Park in the emirate, a Sharjah Municipality official announced today.

The deal to deliver seamless high-speed internet at these venues throughout the week was inked between the municipality and Dubai-based telecom provider du on the last day of Gitex Technology Week, in Dubai.

Thabet Al Tarifi, the Director General of Sharjah Municipality, said select establishments in Industrial Area 5, including health, rental and service centres, along with the municipality building, have already been covered under this initiative.

He added that WiFi UAE, the country-wide initiative to provide Wi-Fi access to the public, in line with UAE Vision 2021, is expected to provide services at more than 400 locations in Sharjah by the end of the year.
