BEIRUT: Lebanon recorded 45 coronavirus cases and three deaths in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Monday, as the country maintains a consistent drop in the spread of the virus.

The new cases brought the total number of coronavirus infections in Lebanon since the virus was first detected in the country in February 2020 to 542,649 along with a total of 7,801 deaths. Out of the reported new cases, two were detected among travelers arriving in Lebanon.

The cases were discovered among 10,269 tests, resulting in a two-week positivity rate of 1.5 percent. The report also detailed 132 individuals in hospital with the virus, with 77 patients in intensive care wards and 20 people on ventilators.

The Health Ministry report also showed 24,040 first-stage jabs had been administered Sunday, raising to 655,493 individuals, or 13.7 percent of eligible people, who have now had their first shot since the rollout began five months ago. A further 366 second-stage vaccines had also been administered, taking the total of fully inoculated people to 316,798, or 6.6 percent of the eligible population.
